The fabulous Blaník mountain is situated not far from the town of Vlašim in Central Bohemia. The legend says that inside the mountains there are Knights of St. Wenceslas who are supposed to help the nation when it is at its worst. The first observation tower made of wood was built in 1895. It was very popular with tourists, however, in the course of time it rotted and in 1936 it collapsed. A new tower was built in 1943. It is 30m high and to get to the top you have to conquer 112 stairs.
